Ok I know its a stupid question
but..

In Solidworks 2010 how do you lock the toolbar so it does not move on you?

Whenever I close solidworks and then reopen it, my toolbar moves to the left side of my screen and I hate that!

It's a known issue that SW has never decided to fix. Sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't. Looks like you're one of the lucky ones. I ditched all of my toolbars a couple of releases ago specifically because of this issue, and I have never turned back. Much faster without them in my opinion.

wait... I got this guys... hang on.

I've been spending a lot of time on the ProE side of things, so I already know the correct default response I'm supposed to give... ready?

"Uninstall SolidDoesn'tWorks and replace it with the superior in every way ProE."

In reality though, it has to do with your user settings. Unless you actually save your user preferences (use the "settings wizzard! It's easy as pie!) it will open using the default settings every time. Simply arrange your desktop the way you want it, toolbars oriented as preferred, etc. Then, run the settings wizzard. It will create a file (similar to a config.pro, just a LOT easier to manage and set up initially), which you can save on a thumb drive to use at any station you want. If you save it to your local settings directory, it will load with those settings every time.

Yey!

Eltron / Spurs,

Try my approach and let me know if it works because I've never had a problem once I've set up my user preferences with the settings wizzard, and I have never heard about it being a "known issue" that SW hasn't yet fixed. Please try it and post up because now I'm very curious... like I said, I never had a problem like this, and I went all the way through the SW2010 releases and service packs.

It works thanks
This was not intuitive

Thanks for the confirmation, Spurs! Eltron, has it worked for you as well? Or have you tried it yet?

It works great
Its just not intuitive

It was the first thing I tried years ago. Was back and forth with the VAR and SW. Didn't work then so I just got rid of all of my toolbars in favor of the "s" key and other hotkeys. Much quicker and user friendly than unpredictable toolbars.

Just do a search for "moving toolbars".

Use S key and you'll never need anythin else.
I just wish the S key could be customized for Modeless ie no partopen so that file open and new could be accessedwithout toolbars.

The only annoying thing is that Derived sketches will show the Part mode shortcut settings and not a Derived Sketch customized menu.

The other annoying thing is that when using command manager and turning it off you get a Features toolbar. If you use a custom all included Command Manager Tab with Sketch Surface and Solids icons you won't gettoolbars when deactivating Command Manager.

Keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl N and Ctrl O) can be used for those functions when in the "modeless" state.
