Longitudinal Y/T near ERW seam

Have some ERW pipe that contains a surface blemish close to the ERW seam. Its certified to CSA Z245.18. I'm not sure of the source of the defect but looks like bad scarfing, hardly noticeable if the light/sun is not just right. regardless had a transverse and longitudinal yield and tensile tests completed to validate strength of pipe is not impacted bye blemish so it can be used. Transverse results were good and the y/t was within spec. The longitudinal results exhibited good strength but the y/t was higher than spec. because the pipe was coated (removed for the tests) and the longitudinal test was so close to the ERW seam, if not on the ERW seam, does the y/t control at this point?

What could a surface blemish have to do with y/t? (Do you mean YS/TS?)

Hopefully nobody is making or buying ERW pipe any more.

Defect definition has no connection to tensile or yield; flaw prove-up is not a tensile test. ERW is normally trimmed with a cutting tool , ID or OD. Properly produce ERW using TMCP ( micro alloyed steel) can have superior properties to seamless unless the seamless is heat-treated. If ERW has a flaw it is almost certain to be in the weld zone. For seamless you must examine the whole body.
