I've designed a 26"-300# knife gate valve and am required by Alberta's Boiler and Pressure Vessel safety association to identify all materials by ASTM/ASME specifications. I come from an industry where all I know is ANSI designations ie. 4140 HTSR, C1026, etc.
I've managed to nail down 90% of the component materials with ASME specs, thanks to this forum and other resources, but I am completely stumped on this structural plate. Normally, I would specify A-36 plate, but to my knowledge any plate over 2" thick becomes G40.21-44W structural plate.
The component is a spacer ring between the valve body and the flange (I'm using A-105 for the flange and A516 Gr. 70 for the valve body plate). The ring dimensions are 30.25" OD x 26.25" ID x 4.50" thk. I opted to flame cut or water jet the rough ring out of plate and then machine to finish dimensions.
If anyone knows of an ASTM/ASME spec that would apply here I would be eternally grateful (it must be a weldable grade steel).
Thanx again
