NX 6 and later. My approach to assembly drawings typically involves creating exploded views, and organizing components from the master model on to different layers to use Visible in View in drafting views later on to control what is displayed. I know you can also hide components in a drawing view instead of using layers. Additionally, there are cases where I might have to show a different reference set of a component, easiest example may be the flat solid reference set of a sheet metal part. In this case what I do in the drawing file is copy that component and then paste it again, so there are two instances now in the drawing assembly file (one instance in the master model, and another as a component of the drawing assembly). Move the copied instance to a different layer and change the reference set to Flat Solid to show in a drawing view. Please comment on what you might do differently or what additional methods you have found to be sucessful regarding assembly drawings.
