I think I'll get a sensible answer from you - does it contain sufficient information to justify the second-hand price, or can the same information be found with reasonable ease from other sources?
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Oddly enough, you force me an uncomfortable position of recommending not to purchase a book that I really like.
The focus of the book is “simple” three-phase fixed speed induction motors. So if you’re interested in more than that, you’ll be disappointed. (It’s not a problem for me – my main job focus is those simple three-phase fixed speed induction motors.)
The author of the book is Richard Nailen. I’m a big fan – he publishes great monthly articles in Electrical Apparatus magazine.
The same author (Nailen) also wrote EPRI 5036 Volume 6, which you can download for free here:
That free book 5036 volume 6 by the same author has probably 75% or more of the stuff that’s in the paid book Managing Motors. Based on that, I’ll have to reluctantly admit that it’s probably not worth plunking down your own money to buy “Managing motors” until you’ve read 5036 volume 6 along with some of the other good free references here thread237-364123 )
Cost aside, I really do like the book. Many areas are well explained and I go back there often because I learned a lot from it when I first studied it early in my motor career. The book was cited in the following threads:
