We are quoting some parts with a DLC treatment and may need to do our own testing of the surface hardness and coating thickness when they come back from the subcontractor. I have quotes from a couple of companies for the nanohardness and calo testers, however, there is $30,000 difference between the two. I know what I want when it comes to spectrometers and combustion analyzers but am totally new to these two pieces of equipment. I was hoping to get some recommendations of brands that others have had good experience with or would stay away from. Or if you don't want to point out a brand name, maybe what features or red flags to look for when choosing this type of equipment. One of the manufacturers has a facility about 5 hours away where I can get hands on with the equipment but the other would be a demo over a video call. Too bad they don't have a bus like LECO.
Thank you,
Bob
