I know there are some real professorial power guys out there.
For those that aren't, IFPS is the International Fluid Power Society. Yes, it is some what international since people outside the US get inducted into the IFPS Hall of Fame.

There are a few different certifications but in general
My questions are these.
1 Are you certified?
2 Do you care?
3 Do you think people that hire you care?

More specifically about the Electronic Control Specialist certification.
This certification deals with some hydraulic theory, wiring, sensors, power supplies, programming and control.
Any opinions here?

I have along list of things that people should know. It is important that the person that is implementing the controls know if the hydraulic/mechanical system is designed correctly. In short, is the system controllable. There are many things that aren't in the current certification. My opinion is that if the system is designed correctly then controlling it is easy.

Most of you know that I sell motion controllers. Training and education is necessary for the proper implementation of hydraulic motion controllers. We have been at this for over 35 years but about 25 years ago I realized that we could sell more motion controllers if people were better trained so that commissioning/installation is easier. I think we have made the implementation part of this pretty straight forward. A typical PLC person can do the controls. The difficulty is designing the hydraulic system correctly because any mistakes cannot be changed in software.

So is an Electronic Controls Specialist certification necessary? Should the Hydraulic Specialist Certification cover more topics dealing with hydraulic servo control.
