In Inventor 8 in assembly mode in the model browser you should see the word MODEL with an arrow next to it. Click on MODEL and select LIBRARY. Then you can access structrural shapes. Give a length, drag and drop into assembly, (hold down long enough for eye dropper to fill before dragging). This should work for V7 also, not sure about earlier versions.

has a bunch of i-parts of structural shapes if you prefer to use i-parts over the library parts.

iparts give you easier edit abilities for part numbers and other properties. BUT if you like the content library stick with it. I'm hoping the mechsoft thing brings some major improvements to the library.

But the content libary will change (again <sigh>) when Mechoft is integrated. Mechsofts is much different from IVs
