I have an old internal design memo stating that for vessels over 300 PSIG the flange has to be calculated as an INTERGRAL flange in accordance with App.2, 2-4(3).
I question the accuracy of this because ASME B16.5 Slip-On style flanges are rated greater than 300 PSIG yet are still attached using only fillet welds.
Does anywhere in Section VIII, Div.1 state when a loose type flange is not an allowable design?
