ASME VIII Div.1 is used for the vessel design. If the MDMT is colder than -29 DegC and warmer than -46 DegC, Low Temperature Carbon Steel is selected, for example, SA516-70N.

My questions:
(1) Is impact test required when MDMT colder than -29 DegC? Or dependS on UCS-66? (In ASME VIII Div.1, if the thickness and temperature combination located above UCS-66 curve D, impact test can be exempted.)

(2) If impact test required, which one is impact tested (Base metal, HAZ, weld, or all)?

(3) If impact test exempted at a temperature lower than -29C, which one is exempted (Base metal, HAZ, weld, or all)?

please advice, thanks.

Please review ASME Section VIII, Div 1 UG-84 first. Then proceed to UCS-66.

Also look at UCS-67-(d)(2). This talks about weld metal. Very important in the -29 to -46 region.
