Hello,
I got a lot of good advice in response to my last question, so hopefully I can draw on someone's experience once again. I am looking for a DC gearmotor to drive an Acme lead screw. Due to space limitations, it cannot be colinear with the screw. I would prefer a right-angle DC gearmotor, but cannot find anything that is not too weak or too strong/big/heavy. Basically, I'm looking for something capable of at least 15 in-lb and 150 rpm at 12 or 24 VDC. A right-angle gearbox would do, but all the ones I'm seeing are insanely expensive and way overdesigned for my purposes. I could also mount the motor parallel to the screw and use some kind of gearbox with parallel shafts on the same side, but I can't find anything like this either. Does anyone have any good suggestions for light-duty DC gearmotors and gearboxes? Thanks!
David

If there is going to be some volume I would use a Merkle-Korf? or Crouzet.

If this is a one of a kind I would use spur gears or pay the high price to save design time.

If this is a hobby project I would get something off a junk car. Power seats, windshield wiper or power windows.

Thanks for the reply. This is for the same tabletop tensile tester on which you advised me several weeks ago. I found four different automotive right angle gearmotors with specs on robotcombat.com-- dirt cheap, lightweight, and compact. Looks like I'm going with a sunroof motor. Precision is no issue here-- just has to stretch a rubber specimen to 50 lbs and give load data. Thanks again!
