Hi!

We have 400V and 690V MCCs painted RAL7035, several inside an electrical room.
New panel is coming for UPS distribution feeds (two or three columns of fuses and MCBs inside) to be installed in the same electrical room, and I wonder if those shall be specified different color. Switchboard supplier is the same as the MCCs so the same RAL color as standard.
Couldn't find anything regarding that as a guide or recommendation...
What's your experience regarding this? Shall UPS panels be painted differently?

Thanks!
Martin.

There is no standard other than your company's or your client's.

One added thought...

While you may not want to paint your switchgear, you might consider painting the conduit raceways. The color could be based on the system, e.g. normal power, UPS/standby, UPS only, etc.

There are no color standards for gear.

I once had to paint an entire MCC to RAL3015, which is a pastel pink, to satisfy a customer's internal color code for electrical equipment. They had different colors for each voltage level, why 480V was pink, they never divulged. It was hideous though, and expensive. We had to do an electrostatic application after the fact because the MCC factory would not shut down their entire production paint line to do one run of pink MCC structures for us. As I recall (this was circa 1982) we had to pay $300 per section and there were 60 sections. That was my first experience with electrostatic painting though and I was actually impressed with how clean and thorough the process was. The end user sent someone out with a paint thickness tester because it had to be a minimum of 2mils thick, it passed.

yea agree that factory might charge a lot on cleaning the powder equipment to change the paint color.

Thanks
