LTC hunting during light load periods

We are running two LTC's in parallel. We have been having a problem recently with a high number of LTC operations on each unit. Closer inspection revealed that the units are "hunting" for a period of a few hours early each morning during light load. As soon as the load comes up, they fall back into step and appear to be paralleling correctly. Can anyone think of anything that may be wrong to cause such an intermittent problem? I've checked settings and recalibrated the LTC controllers with no improvement.

What does the voltage profile look like? If the voltage is changing rapidly, you can't really blame the LTC controller. You may have to increase the time between steps or increase the deadband.

Any chance the LTC is fighting with a cap bank controller somewhere nearby?

The LTC controllers should have paralleling circuits that are interconnected. These focus mainly on reactive power sharing. The setup and performance of these elements need to be verified and tested.

Sorry, I missed the first bit about two LTCs in parallel. You will need to make sure the paralleling system is configured correctly.

The Beckwith website has some great articles on transformer LTC paralleling.
