We are trying to come up with a solution to a bushing problem. While reviewing a bushing catalog I found that they rate there materials based on the PV values. In the book they state that PV values can be increased by addition of the correct lubricants. I'm also interested in possibly using something that is self lubricating.

I need something that will withstand a Velocity of V=210 fpm, P= 2500 psi (force that pin puts on projected area of bushing), and a pv value around 450,000.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Schroyer

You will encounter several problems trying to solve your problem. Standard oil pressure lubrication may work depending on application. The biggest concern I have is point loading from deflection of the parts if you have a projected area pressure of 2500 psi. If your P is 2500 and V is 210 the P/V is 525,000. This should be a hydrodynamic bearing with cooling of the oil lubricant.
Good luck.

I third that. 525,000 ain't gonna happen, no matter what the advertisement says. Maybe if you have an extremely low duty cycle.

It will certianly never happen with a continuous duty cycle and a self lubricating bearing. At least not in my experience. Self lubricating bearings always work better with lubrication. If you find something that works please let us know!
