Hello everyone, i have a question concerning Lusas. I am about to model a concrete box girder of 52 m long and I am not sure about the meshing of the lines, surfaces and volumes.

Could someone help?

Thanks Gas

How you model this problem depends on areas you will like to focus on in your analysis of results. You will find 2 examples that although not exactly same as your problem but similar and will help you develop yours. These are in Lusas Application Manual located in your computer C:/Lusas/Program/PDF Manual. The files are : 'Segmental Construction of a Post Tensioned Bridge' and 'Section Slicing of a 3D Shell structure'. Although valuable information can be gained by modelling the beam as a single line beam, let us say that you decide to model the top flange, web, and bottom flange all surfaces using 3D shell elements. The results will give Nx and Ny values in the elements. But for Code design you will have to transfer these Nx Ny values into moments, and shear because that is what the Concrete Code guides us.

You will have to introduce a common line at the web flange junction to ensure that the web and flange of the box act together compositely.

I am new to the eng-tip and have limited experience in Lusas. I am a bit intrigued that although your query lists that there has been 3 replies, I could not see any replies at all.
