Lynch motor.

Hi,
Just wondered if any of you guys can help me. Although i understand the basics of electric motors I am having a little difficulty getting my head round the UK designed Lynch motor. I am trying to visualise the orientation of armature windings (are they radial like flower petals or axial forming a dougnut)and magnets.
I have searched the net a few times and have only found brief descriptions. Does anyone know where I can get an "exploded view" type drawing.

I have always thought that it is very similar to the NEC and/or Servalec etc "Pancake" motors.

As far as I have seen, it is a flat motor with a printed circuit disk rotor carrying armature conductors and an integrated collector around the inner center.

The magnetic flux is delivered by magnets on both sides of the disk which means low magnetic reluctance and high flux in a small volume.

The advantages are good cooling of the armature (all conductors exposed to air). High power density (because of high flux and flat design). Relatively good brush life (collector has small diameter - low surface speed). The dynamic properties are good (disk has low inertia).

Problems may be risk of demagnetization because the armature has a low resistance and a high current can weaken the permanent magnets as well as low thermal inertia since the armature mass is low.

Thanks for the prompt reply, You have highlighted one of the reasons I would like to see a diagram. Some of the articles I have read imply it has a laminated iron or copper armature, apparently laminated radially rather than printed circuit board. I just don't seem to be able to get my head round how it is assembled.
