Just got this in the mail today. For $249, you get a maintenance contract for M14, which might include revs above M020, two licenses for M15 when released, and access to the Knovel Mathcad library. Can't find useful links on their website, but the email sender was salicea_at_mrcpds.com. I've verified with PTC that is is a legitimate offer.

Design of Experiments (DoE) - Over 25 new functions to reduce the time and expense of conducting experiments through DoE by understanding the variable interactions that will influence the experiment. Do helps you identify critical factors and optimal settings for your complex process. It provides templates for fewer yet more intelligent experiments which are indispensable when you have multiple variables and levels.

Integration to Knovel Math content - Quickly access the full list of Knovel's fully documented Mathcad worksheets from trusted Roark's and Hick's reference works, reducing the time it takes to solve your complex math problems.

Integration to Truenumbers - Truenumbers enables the ability to easily communicate values across applications and the organization without loss of quantity or unit integrity. Results and values can be moved outside of Mathcad onto different document types - enabling easy sharing of the data.

Excel 2007 support - Leverage the following functions and features with Excel 2007: READEXCEL(), WRITEEXCEL(), READFILE, the data import wizard, and the Excel Add-in.

Same issues, same results
Idiots!

Folks:

I signed up for the offer. You get a MathCad14.0 CD by courier in a few days. And, I assume, as the offer says rights to MathCad 15.0 when it is released.

You have to sign a waiver saying you will de-install 14.0 within 60 days after you get 15.0. Not sure why. And they want the serial number of your present mathcad version.

I have not installed 14.0 yet but I assume it is M030 as I already have 14.0 M020.

The disk is probably still M020, but as a maintenance customer, you should have access to the latest rev of M14, which is M035

Hope this isn't hijacking the thread, but when I got the same e-mail as IRstuff got, I looked over the V15 stuff really closely and though "WHY?". Did anyone else see anything in the V15 announcement that they want or need? I sure didn't.

David

You get no argument from me, David.

The biggest attraction would be to the get latest bug fixes for M14, as well as the bug fixes for M14 M035, i.e., M15

If I were to have issues with the currently extant M14 bugs, and they were causing sufficient grief, at our contract rates, the cost of the upgrade is less than 2 hrs of billable time.

FAQ731-376

IRstuff: That's why I signed up - to get bug fixes for the M020 I am running now. Why the offer? Could it be that MathCad may have lost customers to Maple and MatLab when PTC started asking users to pay for bug fixes ... which used to be free before PTC took over. So I bet you are right: M035 is actually MathCad 15.0. Duped again.

Actually, M14 M035 was released around Aug-Sept of last year. The M15 slated for release this year is ostensibly something like M14 M040.

FAQ731-376

I don't plan to give them another nickel. The "pay for bug fixes" model is just reprehensible. I know that software as complex as MathCad cannot be bug free--there is no way to test every combination of option, sequence of option execution, operating system, and user quirks--some of those combinations is bound to be septic. They have to be.

On the other hand we spend considerable money for what was purported to be a working product. If they find broken things and fix them it seems that customer service would push them toward providing those fixes to registered users.

I've been using MathCad since 1994 (I think it was version 4) and when I got it I was so happy to get away from Mathmatica's horrible user interface that I was happy with an 80% product. Sixteen years later, an 80% product makes me a bit less giddy.

When I was unable to reinstall V13 due to a problem the PTC had with XP Pro SP3 and they gave me a good deal on V14 M020, I looked at the alternatives. At that time I couldn't find a good translator from MathCad to Maple or Mathmatica (and I have hundreds of MathCad files), but I'm thinking that in the intervening year someone may have addressed that problem. Next problem I have with PTC will be the end of my involvement with them.
