Does anyone know the machinability of this forging? Are there any special considerations or similar more common materials that I can compare it to?

kdittus, I suppose it could depend upon what your plan to machine it INTO, but it is used for pressure vessel parts of all kinds. Machinable enough for that.

I'm not a machinist, can't give you feeds & speeds.

Mike

Its chemistry is close to Mn carbon steel 1520-1530 to me and in N, NT or QT heat treatment condition. I will just use 1530 or 4130 with similar hardness as your reference.

Thanks all, I appreciate the help.

It is readily machined. Machined flange faces are routinely produced from this material.
