I am exploring options for implementing a semi-standard G code based control system for a 5 axis machine. The machine is custom built and currently uses a robot-code programming language.
Does anyone have any recommendations for vendors who would be able to implement a complete control system, similar to those found on most machining centers?
So far my only options have been machine tool manufacturers, and of these only a few offer the services I am looking for.
Thanks

Here is the link to the Siemens 840D retrofit. I think this may be what you are looking for. They are claiming to be able to run up to 248 axes with this controller.

Jeff:
There are several ways to go here. Like everything else the more cash you toss in, the more buttons and horns you get.
There is so many mfg's offering multi axis drives, controls it makes you feel like your shopping for fast food.
They have a nice site and demos for your enjoyment.
JBEL's recommendation is a good one or look into Meldas
Hope this points you into a working direction;
