Does anyone have any experience/advice when it comes to Milling Concrete? We would like to expand the work surface of a very large vertical mill. The machine's travel envelope extends beyond the existing steel tooling surface, which is ~3" thick and is embedded in the floor. The tentative plan is to cut a pocket in the concrete into which another tooling surface will be placed and leveled, flush to the existing one. Has anyone tried anything like this? Are there milling cutters designed for concrete? Any tips for feeds/speeds/how to approach this?
Thanks

Some of the concrete boys may have a better slant on your problem than this.

We accomplished a couple of very similar alterations in our machine shop by taking the surface down with a scarifier, milling, then bringing to final dimensions and smoothing by diamond grinding.

If you get a contractor for the work make sure they a competent with their tools and understand the job at hand. We had a very bad experience with competency.

There are numerous machines out there you may want to look around.

Why don't you take out more than necessary, grout in an adjustable base of your own fabrication, to which your machine bed or rails would be attached. Then you are not dependent on the absolute accuracy of a contractor who does not understand that degree of accuracy.
