Let me clarify, we have a spindle assembly with a slinger (collar) which is press fit onto the spindle shaft. The slinger is machined to fit an oil seal which has a tolerance of 4.875 +0 -0.0004 in. Do you know of a turning processes which can produce to +0/-0.0004 in?

Any machinist should be able to hit this tolerance.
Especially if it's a "one of" situation.
CNC equipment can repeatedly do this all day long.
If this is a regular lip seal, this tolerance req.is
probably a typo.Four tenthousandths is not necessary
for proper sealing action

Have you checked with the seal manufacturer whether that tolerance is a misprint? I agree, that is almost impossibly tight for machining. If it must be held, I think it must be ground, with temperature controlled environment. If the shaft is steel, a change of 13F moves the dimension from low limit to high limit. If it is aluminum, the change is only 6.5F.
