I am looking for a macro or Lisp or VB routine that would allow you to select a directory. Then would auto purge and delete layer filters in all the drawings in that directory. It would be nice if got the sub folders in that folder also.

We are basically trying to clean up all of our old archive data and I know enough lisp and VB to do nothing useful.

I tried doing some searches on the net and here with no luck for what I wanted.

Thanks in advance.

I have run some test with it and it works pretty well.
About to go permission from the IT guys to run it on some old archive jobs we have on the server, to see how it really performs.

On my test it is knocking the file size down by 10-12% per file on average. Really adds up quick.

Here is the original link.

Here are some comments on it.

Forgot to mention, it will also pick up all subfolders also.

Correction to my last two post. This doesn't actually purge the drawings, but does remove layer filters and application ids. Also some of the reading said don't do this in AutoCAD 2006. But it still does a great job.

Just need to find one that purges now.

A good tool for purging is CDPURGE 4.0. The author's website is It's tempoarily unavailable there as it's being updated.

You could incorporate it in a batch process, but separate from the PURGEID process as the drawing purge requires the drawings to be opened.
