Macros in solidworks

Hi Everyone,

This is my first questions to all of you.

I am working in solidworks 2003 & I have following
questions for my customization
1) Is there any way I can convert Coordinates of a point or 3d sketch directly from solidworks to Excel,Word. If Yes then how?

2)Is there any way I can customize my BOM in drawing if it is inserted from separate excel sheet?

3)We have PDM Works & Property Links at work. How I can fill up property links information in a way that It can be directly linked to my drawing files?

Before you proceed to my questions, please let me know first.
I am not a programmer. I haven`t used many macros either in solidworks or in excel. So please keep in mind and answer my issues.

REKO, I think that we'll need some more information. Since you are not familiar with the SolidWorks API, I assume that mentioning the SelectionManager and MathUtility objects would be pointless. If I am wrong, please let me know for I will explain them if it would be of use.

1. Yes you can. Will the user select the point to be extracted or will all points on a selected sketch be extracted? Do you want the coordinates based on the sketch origin or the model origin?

2. Yes, you are able to attach to OLE items such as inserted worksheets. Modifying them, however, will require knowledge of the Excel API.

3. I do not use PDM Works and have not heard of Property Links. Are you looking to define custom properties in the drawing file so that they can be used by these applications?

Hope this is what you are asking about the BOM.
You can create a custome BOM in SW. Open the default BOM in Excel and save as "Custom.xls" Change the column headers to what you want to see on the drawing sheet and name the ranges accordingly.
You can create custom properties in your template parts based on what you need to see in the BOM. I have a unique set for each customer - part, assembly, drawing, and BOM.
This is not anything special, as I think everyone of us does this. It is not hard to figure out, since the whole process is detailed in the help files. Just search for "BOM"

FYI:

When making a Custom BOM don't delete the header columns only hide them. If you delete them you will see some serious Remaking of the BOM time and time again after rebuilding it. So just hide the default columns if you don't need them.
