Magnet Stirrer for melt Aluminium 1

Dear friends,

I have been told about this "MAGNET STIRRER" for Aluminium foundry. It gives the melt aluminium a constant stirring with a low energy consumption.


The cuestion is:

Do you think it has some king of "stir bar (flea)" with a ceramic cover inside the crucible? they do not say anything about this, but obviously the Aluminium is not magnetic..

Any suggestion?

It doesn't need to be magnetic, just electrically conductive. These are just induction coils and the resulting eddy currents in the Al result in stirring action.

Comparing this thing to a motor, we are asking how does the rotor (moving part) work.

It could work analogously to induction motor, in which case the rotor needs to be conducting, as Ed said (no rhyme intended).

It could work analogously to a reluctance motor, in which case the rotor just needs to have high permeability.... like steel.

It could work analogously to permanent magnet motor, in which case the rotor would be PM.... although finding a magnet to survive those high temperatures might be a challenge.
