I heard that a MIL spec (MIL E 917 E) forbids crimped connections on (rectangular) magnet wire. Only soldering is allowed. We'd like to start crimping these things, especially since it is commonly claimed that a crimped connection can offer improved vibration resistance, and may be the standard in aircraft.

I've located a copy dated 1993, but wondered if anyone can elaborate.

Thanks,

Dan T

Crimping is the way to put lugs on stranded wire but crimped lugs on solid wire loosens up with vibration. It is basically caused by the lug clamping force being smaller than the torque that the solid wire can create.
