How does one calculate the attractive force between a conductor carrying a DC current and some nearby steel? We have a bus bar carrying 25000 amps next to a steel I-beam and need to figure out how much bracing we need to put between the two.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There's no simple equation. One usually resorts to finite element modeling in a situation like that.

Equation 6.3 here gives the force between a conductor and a steel plate. This could serve as an upper bound for the forcew between a conductor and an I-beam at same distance
