Hi everybody

Shall I ask where can I see how the magnetic properties of steel change by changing the steel grade?

The internet is a wonderful source of information, not only can you ask such a question in a forum such as this, you can also search for the information on your own, without depending on others to do that search for you.

Internet search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo can provide this type of resource for you.

Start with the FEMM material library, it's free. Caveat: You get what you paid for.

The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in this version of Windows.

There is no simple answer to your question. You are dealing with a half dozen variables or sothat are not specifically associated with the steel grade.

You can check a number of handbooks, ranging from Bozorth to more modern materials texts, and of course a large number of research papers.

Furthermore, even within the same grade of steel, processing conditions can alter the magnetic properties of the material. This comes up often in my work as we develop hardware for MRI systems.

304SS and to a lesser extent 316SS see an increase in magnetic susceptibility after cold work.

There's a good paper by Schenk on the subject.
