How does one calculate the magnetic saturation point of an iron stator brushless DC machine? I am am trying to figure out the most efficient winding for an outside runner BLDC motor. Also how can I estimate the no load current at a fixed voltage?

The specs on the Stator are as follows:

OD: 28mm
Lenth: 9mm
Lamination thickness: .2mm
Stator tooth height: 6mm (from base to hammerhead)
Tooth width: 1.5mm
# Stator teeth: 12
# of magnets: 14
Winding pattern: DLRK (AabBCcaABbcC)
Magnet strength: N45
Airgap: .3mm
Magnet thickness: 1.5mm

If it is broken, fix it. If it isn't broken, I'll soon fix that.

For an Unfocused Magnetic Circuit (with back iron return path), the Permeance Coefficient [PC] is

PC = [Magnet Length]/[Gap Length] = 1.5/0.3 = 5

The Gap Field strength is given by

Bg = Br {PC/[PC+1}

If Br for the 45 MgOe RE magnet is 1.2 Tesla, the field strength in the gap is

Bg = (1.2)(5/[5+1])= 1.0 Tesla
