I've just been on a start up that utilised magnetically coupled pumps.
As I know next to nothing about this technology does anyone have any usefull information or links??

Mainly used in small applications, particularly in the chemical industry where there is high risk of corrosion and where leakage would also be undesirable.
In the drawing "A" is the internal magnet connected directly to the impeller. "B" is the pump front casing, "C" the impeller, "D" external magnet and "E" the motor stool.

Also have a look at here (and many other sites on the net).

A quick search on the internet should asist you - try the following for a start -

go to -
type in - magnetic coupled pumps

Principally, they all similar, if you log onto our website and log in as a user, you can download an Installation, Operation and Maintenance manual which will give you step by step information on how to install, commission and operate such pumps

Hopes this helps...
