Dear all:
I work in an API plan that has one part with 20 years old and another with 4, and I would like to know if there are any industry indicators for maintenance costs. My intention is to know if there are any industry acceptable ranges for maintenance costs (% of sales, % of value of fixed assets, etc.).

Thanks a lot for your help.

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient plant. Is a plant where we make the active principle that will be used by the pharmaceutical companies to make the medicines.

The Chemical Engineers' Handbook has a good section on this subject. I think the best estimator is % of plant replacement cost. The value for the estimator for process plants is in the 2.5 to 4% range. I think this works because the labour and materials used in building the plant are the same as are used in maintaining the plant. Don't forget to determine the replacement cost of the plant by using an index for the 4 year old plant and making a fresh estimate for the 20 year old plant.
