Could you possibly contact your local Cat rep? He may tell you what you need to know.

Also,

You could possibly look in the current NETA standard.

One of the things that Bell System did with their heavy trucks was that instead of an oil and filter change every 6,000 miles they would change both oil filters and put in 2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. The oil was always clean and always had some fresh additives in it. I was told this by a retired auto mechanic who had a customer who did this with his own car.

It does make sense. In 1988 an oil change for a semi truck was around $100 to $120 cha ching. For a big genset this makes even more sense.

I have also worker on an industrial punch press with two oil filters with a valve that allowed you to change 1 filter at a time while the press was running.

I have just started doing this with my hillbilly rustbucket junkmobile because it is more afforadable and less messy. I am not allowed to do anything high buck around here because I cannot get a milliion dollars in training. I have even put it on my resume that I cannot compete against somebody who has a million dollars in training from Uncle Sam.
