Hello. My son is a junior in high school and would like to pursue genetics in college. We have been looking through undergrad programs that would allow him to work in this profession and it seems somewhat overwhelming. There are degrees in genetic engineering, bioengineering, 5+ different types of biology degrees. Some are specific to agriculture, some are specific to medicine. The engineering degrees are ABET programs and have the same mathematics requirements as more math intensive engineering programs. This is a deterrent to pursuing an engineering option, but not a deal breaker.
What is the best degree for someone looking to be involved in genetics or will any of them do the job?
