Hello all,

This is the first time working with Draftsight. I have a drawing that need to do minor edits and want to make it smaller to fit drawing size C. I scaled it down to fit the border but my whole dimensions have changed to that scale factor as well. Is there a way I can make the drawing smaller in size without affecting the overall dimensions?

Thank you for your time and support in advance.

In AutoCAD, you would make the drawing at 1:1 in Model Space, then put the format in Paper Space, and adjust the viewport scale so that the drawing fits within the format. That's somewhat simplified, but pretty much describes the process.

ISTR that Draftsight works pretty much the same way.

'Scaling' the drawing in Model Space, as you discovered, also affects the value of associative dimensions, because it changes the model scale.

What MikeHalloran said is what I believe to be the "right way" to do things.

Some don't like using paperspace at all. What you can also do, if you are one such heathen, is to scale your model and adjust the "scale factor" of your dimensions in each view to suit. This property is named "Dim scale".

To me, you draw everything 1:1 and make detail views using 'viewports' in paperspace. Then you label each view with the scale of the viewport as needed. You can also have much more powerful control over the display of the detail views, such as hiding layers or overriding the color or plot properties of the elements /only in that view/ so that you can 'grey' things out if it's only for reference in that view.
