Making section views from a detail view

Is it bad practice to add a section view from a detail view or does it matter as long as your design intent is captured?

This is typically a matter of company policy.... but can sometimes be set by the CAD software in use

Wisely, DASSAULT's "SOLIDWORKS" establishes definitions and makes policy (de facto) by the way that their software works

It is bad practice to add any view that is not needed to fully undertsand the subject of the drawing.
