Making the switch to SW...

We have decided to make the switch from Catia V5R20 to SW. This morning I was given access to one of the licenses owned by our design group. It's 2011 Premium. I'm told we will be getting 2012 Pro. So far what little I've had time to work with it has been great. Loving the sketcher, and the planes. It's much more like Pro/e than Catia.

I've been using Catia for the past 6 months, and Pro/e for the 9 years prior to that. I always liked using Pro/e, but never could get used to finding work arouds in Catia. I'm hoping this is a smooth transition.

Regardless of your background with 3D or even without you should go through the SWX tutorials. They will dramatically shorten your learning curve. If you have a surfaces-dominated software background you'll get used to the solids. If you are a breeze with another 3D system you'll still benefit from the tutorials by learning the SWX terminology and techniques. I've seen many posts from Pro/E users complainning that SWX is not as easy to use, or that they could do one thing or another in Pro/E, but cannot in SWX only to find out they did not bother to learn what SWX could do and how to do it. After a little openminded learning these same folks usually sing the praises of SWX.

You need to use your mind switch between the programs. Forget how the others do it, just learn how the current one works.

Thanks for the welcome...

I definitely will be working through some tutorials. As you say, every program does it a little different. I think though, that once I figure out the how and where of SW I'll be a lot happier than in Catia.
