Manning's formula 1

Howdy
I am working on an audit for a sewer system and I was wondering if mathCAD could solve manning's formula in a way to give me an equation for an approximation for depth of flow? I have GPD, pipe diameter, pipe length, slope, roughness, but alas I need the depth of flow and I am untaught to this program, but it is what I have.

Yes, it can be done. If you go to the Mathcad resources page, you should be able to find and download the "Civil Engineering Solved Problems" handbook from here:


This includes (among other things) a worksheet for Manning's n.

(Unfortunately, when I try to load this, it fails because I have Mathcad 14, but the installation routine says it will only run with Mathcad 7. If you have an old licence handy, you might be able to get it to install.)

I found a work-around:

If the installation routine won't recognise your version of Mathcad (because it is looking for version 7), open the installation file with WinZip - this will show you all the included files, which you can then extract to an approriate directory, and open with Mathcad - sweet!
