Probably a lousy time to mention this, as I leave tonight for a 1.5 week vacation ...

My brother is actively managing my Dad's farm, as he is in the last stages of Alzheimer's, and Mom is suffering from senility/dementia as well. To keep some income coming in for them, he rents the pasture for a neighbor's cattle. He's also looking into selling some of the timber on the property, though prices are not very good right now. He also mentioned cutting down several maple trees (species Bigleaf Maple Link), because their leaves tend to kill wide areas of grass as they pile up in the fall. He was going to just split most of these trees for firewood, as they aren't very straight - but did mention that they also had a lot of knots and burls, one at least 2.5 feet in diameter.

I know there was discussion on this forum, somewhere, about people looking for figured wood to carve. Any interest out there for a 2' burl? If not, any suggestions on ways to sell it (an ebay-like site for woodcarvers?)?

I think McGyvers2000 may be the serious wood turner, and I'm not sure he's active in this forum if you catch my drift. Maybe post in the regular pub?

Didn't someone in the Pub do some wood carving?

Maui, perhaps?

Oh, and sorry to hear about your parents. My paternal Grandfather had stroke dementia and it was difficult, especially for my poor dad.

Thanks for the link, Tick.

Kenat, you are probably right. Wonder if there's a way to move this post lock stock and barrel over to the pub? Or should I just double post over there...;)

I'd think double post may be OK in this case.

You could always flag this one for Dave or Dave to delete if you're really concerned.

I'd just make sure and put a link here to the other thread and encourage folks to post there.

I got no problem with moving to the Pub. I can delete the thread or leave it. Your choice.

Sounds like some nice table-making stock.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it's not safe ... make it that way.

McGyvers2000 is interested in such timber. He is normally a regular in the pub although I can't remember seeing much activity lately.

I see no problem with a double post of this "social" nature in the pubs.
