We have a customer who wants to use a plate heat exchanger to cool marine diesel oil. In my experience shell and tube heat exchangers have been used for MDO cooling. A plate heat exchanger seems to be more prone to leakage than shell and tube. Does anyone have any experience with plate heat exchangers with MDO cooling? Would you recommend shell and tube over plate for this application? Why? Thanks!

P&F is more compact.
The welded ones are very robust, but....
You must have very clean fluid on both sides as you cannot clean them.
And you must make sure that you select the correct material of construction since there are thousands of very tight crevices that are quite prone to corrosion.
