I am looking for any code or basic design standards which might conflict with the following scenerio.
Following my clients recommendation, I am utilizing an ivany block, 12" wide, as structural columns in a four story building. The veneer of the building is brick on the second and third floors, and cmu on the first floor. The columns support the exterior of the building, starting at second floor framing. I would like to cover the exterior of the columns with 4" cmu veneer. My question is, can this 4" veneer extend into the ground, 8' below grade to footing? The 4" veneer would be flush against the column.
Thanks
