Hi All,

I'm looking to detail a Masonry head restraint for a blockwork wall to the underside of a metal deck. I want to provide a soft joint to not transfer any vertical loads but to restrain it laterally.

I have previously used Ancon IHR-V ties when it's to the underside of a steel beam that can be tied to the beam flange, but can't see how the same fixing detail would work when to a metal deck.

Does anyone know of a product/detail that would work in this scenario.

Below is a link to a restraint detail to the underside a steel beam.

Thanks all.

Same detail would work but you'd need to use a different fixing. Either clamps into the profile of the deck or a fixing that will drill through into the concrete.

GeorgeTheCivilEngineer, Thanks for that, so id rather not have to drill through the concrete.

When you say clamp into the profile of the deck are you referring to providing the fixing through the decking before the concrete has been poured? Or is there come detail/way to clamp to the underside of the decking only?

Most of the profiles I am familiar with have little rebates in them. These are not only to be stiffeners, they also allow for little expanding clamps so suspended ceilings and MEP services can be attached without the need for drilling.

Apparently called wedge nuts (school day)
There are strict controls on drilling composite decks but it can be done. No hammer drill settings, basically...

Alternatively you can drill through and fix the restraints before the concrete is poured. The contractor won't love you for it but hey ho.

GeoregeTheCivilEngineer - Thank again!

I am actually Specing an SMD Deck! I see these fixings everyday at the gym i go to which has an exposed celling with the MEP visible and have never noticed them.

I'll look for a restraint tie with the combination of a wedge nut fixing thanks again!
