I have a steel framed building that is going to have a 10" CMU wall as its exterior. The design of the wall requires some tie back to the steel framing. I have seen a few details of dovetail type anchors used to do this but I havent seen any thing that gives capacities....I am sure they have to be fairly close together but I am lacking in experiance in designing this attachment..I am unsure how these anchors stay in the wall it seems they would "punch" thru the mortar....any help would be appreciated...

I don't know about dove tail, but I recently had Dayton Superior develop capacities for me on some of their light gage hooked anchors for the same kind of application. I would contact them.

Thanks haynewp....It seems this must be a fairly typical connection it could be a hook or dovetail...I just need something that supports the masonry wall from wind loads..tension and compression. I would like to see something that shows how this attachment stays fastened to the wall....some of details I have seen appear to be just set in between courses so the mortar holds it in.

You could run a bond beam at the elevation of the connection with embed anchors. The anchors could attach to a vertical slotted connection in the steel back-up to allow for deflection of the steel beam.
