Mate Folder Problems 1

All,
I ran across an odd problem on another users machine. When this user creates mates for parts in an assy, he tells me that it automatically creates a folder. Like "Folder1" for instance, with the mates in that folder. Has anyone else came across this problem, and would you know how to fix it???

Those folders have to be created by the user. They don't automatically get created.

I also seemingly get folders automatically created e.g. Folder 1, for each mating session. However I don't look on it as a problem. By renaming the folders the mates become much easier to keep track of. If necessary you can drag new mates into the existing folders.

What you described is exactly what this user gets. Just would like to know if there is a way of turning it off so it won't create all these folders. We would really like to try and keep all the mates in one folder.

What version and SP are you using?

Try updating to the latest SP and see if that fixes the problem.

Currently we are running SW2004 SP3.0. There has been nothing in the release notes for the newer sp's that states this was an issue or fixed... The problem I have is our CAD admin wants to hold off on SP uprades till we install SW2005 and SP1.0.

I'm not sure when this was implemented, but in SWX 2004 the mates do show up in a folder that is automatically created. Open an assembly and expand any part that has been mated. The very first item in that part's tree is a folder with a paper clip icon it. Expand that and you will see the mates related only to this part in this assembly. This is a great enhancement. I used to switch the Feature Manager tree display from View Features to View Dependencies to get this filtering. Now the View Dependencies is contained in this Mates folder, making things a lot easier and faster. As Scott points out you have to manually create other folders such as used for grouping features, but this "Mates in (name of assembly file)" folder is automatically generated.

At the bottem of the FM tree for the assembly file is the double paper clip icon that holds all the mates for that assembly file. These folders just make it a whole lot easier to find the mates relating only to the indivisual parts. Basically you can get to the mates from the part or from the total collection of mates.

Your coleague has the "Add to new folder" option checked at the bottom of the Mate dialogue.
