We are having a problem that we can not change the material on some parts. The only way to change it is to delete the material and then add it again with the new description. It just started with Service pack 4.0.

Has any one else experienced this problem.

This may or may not help you ... but you may want to checkout the following Tech Bulletin from SWx:

Jun 08, 2007 Available Bulletin: PDMWorks Workgroup 2007 SP4.0 server installation problem

A problem with the installation package associated with PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x and SP4.0 was recently identified. A corrected version is now available via the SolidWorks 2007 SP4 downloads page. The new version of the PDMWorks Server download is SP4.01.

The details of the problem that exists in the PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x and SP4.0 installation packages are as follows:

If PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP4.0 is being installed as an upgrade to PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x OR if PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP4.0 (or SP3.x) is uninstalled, then all non-Read-only files (not folders) residing in the root directory of the drive on which the Operating System is installed will be deleted. In some cases this could result in the deletion of required operating system files. If a computer has been affected by this problem and those operating system files have been removed, then the computer will fail to boot successfully next time it is restarted. Machines with 64-bit operating systems will not experience this problem.

On a machine that has been impacted by this problem it is important to verify that the required operating system files are present before restarting the system otherwise the system will not be able to boot successfully. In order to see these operating system files you will need to adjust your Windows Explorer settings to show hidden files and also to show protected operating system files. The operating system files that if missing will prevent a reboot are BOOT.INI, NTDLR, and NTDETECT.COM. If operating system files are determined to be missing, then the operating system will need to be repaired. If a machine is in this bad state due to the PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x/SP4.0 problem, then please contact your company's IT staff and explain details of the problem. The IT expert will need to determine the most appropriate way to repair the machine with consideration for that machine's operating system, the files which are missing, and the hardware configuration.

If a customer wishes to uninstall PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x and SP4.0, then certain precautions need to be taken. Before uninstalling PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 SP3.x or SP4.0 make sure the Read-Only attribute is set on all files at the root level of the operating system drive (typically C:\):

1) Adjust the folder options in Windows Explorer to show hidden files and also show protected operating system files.
2) Shift+select all files (not folders) on the root of the drive where the operating system is installed (typically C)
3) Check the Read-Only option on the properties dialogue

If a customer is upgrading any previously installed PDMWorks Workgroup Server 2007 (including SP3.x or SP4.0) installation to the newly available SP4.01, then no special actions are needed. The SP4.01 installation package no longer has the above outlined problem.
