I am interested in evaluating an ASME Sec.8 Div.1 vessel that was exposed to excessive temp. The vessel is 60 inch ID X 96 inch lenght, .186 inch wall Sa-36 shell with .375 inch wall flange and dish Sa-516 gr70 heads. The design conditions are 40 PSI @ 650°F. The lower portion ( approx.18 inches in length )of the shell has been heated to above the 2650°F melting point of the shell material and subsequently failed in random areas in the mentioned section. I interested in evaluating the remainder of the shell, nozzles and both heads for possible salvage, is a brinell test adequate for areas that do not have any visible plastic deformation? if so what are the acceptable BHR range for these materials? Any other suitable examinations available? Looking at my options.
