Material for Cyclone

Hi, I'm Xeros

I have two cyclones for separating solid and liauid in Amine Generation Plant.

Our client requested DSS casting (CD4m-Cu) for cyclone body.
However, vendor wanted to apply DSS plate instead of casting for cyclone body.

I think that Erosion is a main factor for selecting cyclone materials.

What is more resistant to erosion between casting and plate?

and, could you provide the information about erosion resistance for various materials?

OR, is there no problem applying the plate material for cyclone body?

in my opinion there is no difference in erosion resistance between plate or cast. Regarding the erosion resistance of different materials, if it's a pure mechanical mechanisms, not erosion-corrosion, then there is not a great difference between steels.
If it's a corrosion-erosion then there is a great difference between materials.
Look at DNV RP O501. It's applicable to piping but can give you an idea on the way to evaluate the erosion effect on different materials.

Can they make the correct geometry from plate? If so then I see no problem.
If you are using a duplex stainless I would guess that you are dealing with erosion/corrosion.
The combination of corrosion resistance, strength, and work hardening are what will give you resistance to E-C.
In order to do better than your current material you will need to move to a higher alloy duplex grade.

The very best alloys for resisting erosion corrosion are Co based alloys, but the mechanism is different.
