Hi everybody. We are looking for material of valves that can handle water in a ph range from ph 2 to ph 12.
316 seems not to be the right option, even Duplex is not recommended. Any ideas?

gstorf, At what pressure and temp.? If low enough, polyethylene or pvc should work fine. If you need the mechanical strength you'll need to go to some of the more exotic alloys. BTW, what is causing such extreme pH fluctuations?

Hope this helps.

saxon, thanks for your reply.
Working pressure is 5 bar, temp. 0 - 50°C. The requested valves shall be in operation with different types of basic and sour water.
The customer has slamming problems with PVCU valves and is looking for an alternativ.

I had worked in a Soda Ash plant and the liquids we handled were of similar characteristics as mentioned by you. Peoplew in the plan were using cast iron plug, ball and butterfly valves but with lot of maintenance problems. We started experimenting with Butterfly valve, nitrile rubber lined, wafer type. It saved cost and was trouble free for long time. In some area where the temperature was moderately high, SS316 butterfly valve was used.
