What's the material and finish for the black spring metal in this picture?

I am designing a spring and I want it to be flex and hard as this metal?

How should I specify in my drawing?

Thanks for replying.

I was prompted by a vendor, but I am not sure if this is True.
He said that material is Manganese - Steel.

Does anybody here have any idea what material could this clip be made of?
And also, could it be pre heatreated or Post heat treated in real production?

Look into "spring" steels

The materials is spring steel (there are several varieties), and the finish is bluing.

The spring steel must be in annealed condition for allowing forming the curls.
It will be then hardened and tempered, and finished as required.

Thanks goahead. So on my drawing notes I should probably provide information about :

1. Use spring steel (any specific ?)
2. Anneal before forming
3. Harden and temper after forming ( what temp / hrc ?)

Can anybody provide more info.

Here is an example of a proper specification for this type of part:

Material: ASTM A684, 1050-1074 spheroidized annealed
Treatment: Austemper to 44-51 HRC
Coating: black electrocoat, thickness 10 μm minimum

Another option for the coating is black oxide. This can specified according to ISO 11408, DIN 50938, SAE AMS 2485, or MIL-DTL-13924.

Goathead - some spring steels are not annealed. Helical compression springs made from 304L wire are common, and they are definitely not annealed, though they may be stress-relieved after forming. But the strength of those springs is dependent upon the fact that the wire began with a yield strength of about 25 ksi and ended as a wire with a yield strength of up to 250 ksi, then it's wound into a spring.

Cockroach - I haven't heard how a AL 6061 be used for a spring.

Could be an alloy, pure guess. Why not google "What is a paper clip made of" and doing some basic research? Might be better than guessing, no?

The result from a google search had various kinds of spring steel.
In fact the answer from TVP (above) gave me all the information I needed. But was curious about AL you mentioned.

But I agree, It might be an alloy, if its AL.
