Materials blocking Magnetic fields 2

Will someone please inform me of any materials that will block magnetic fields. I am needing to rest two magnets with opposite poles ontop of each other for an experiment.
I would appreciate any help.

I think your only option is to put a soft magnetic material between them that will direct flux away.

A typical material used for screening is mumetal:

This has extremely high permeability making it very receptive to carrying flux with no leakage.

However the cross sectional area must be large as it saturates fairly easily.

On a practical basis nothing will block magnetic fields. Superconducting materials will but I suspect that is beyond the practical for you.

What UKpete is telling you is that the only recourse for you is to divert the flux lines using a material that easily carries flux. The amount of material depends on the size of your permanent magnets and to what degree you wish to reduce the fields. While he suggests mumetal it is not readily available as perhaps mild steel (low carbon) sheet or bar stock.

Mild steel arranged properly will be your least expensive and most readily available alternative.

be predict the resultof your experiment based on his
expertise and make the actual experiment unnecessary...
