I still have some for use in my veteran car.

The potentials are:-

Aromatic nylons like Trogamid, Grilamid, Reny.

Amorphous PET.

PETG.

Scratch resistant treated PC.

Cellulose propionate.

High impact acrylic.

I'm aware its a poly Pat. The thing I like about it though is the ability to "flow" and eventually hide scratches - in 500 years or so. Really helps the ski goggles!

Advertising is wonderful, right?

PC is very poor to scratch resistance. That along with solvent stress cracking are it's two weakest properties. Neither are really acceptable in a safety lens.

There are two technologies that I am aware of to improve its scratch resistance. Both by default can improve solvent stress crack resistance as well.

One is a soft urethane coating that does self heal by flowing. I can't recall ever seeing it used commercially, but Bayer surface coating division certainly did work on that in the late 1980s.

The other is the one currently used on automotive headlights, where the surface is treated with a very hard silane treatment. The sheet is marketed by Sabic as Lexan MR (for mar resist). Others use the same technology with a different designation.
