Materials in equipment ASME VIII Div. 1 without U-STAMP

Hello,

I'm asking if is possible to use an alloy with european certification EN in an ASME without U-STAMP equipment.

The specific case is that our pressure vessel is less then 2" of diameter and our customer ask us to design and test according to ASME VIII Div. 1. (It doesn't require U-STAMP).

In this equipment we will use for a part of it Alloy 6082 T6 (for a flange from a round bar).

ASME SB-221 doesn't consider this alloy (only 6061 and 6063).
Unfortunately 6061 is impossible to find in Europe and all round bar here are in 6082 T6.

Since you are not U stamping the vessel, it doesn't have to meet all of the Section VIII requirements. Thus, it becomes a matter of agreement between you and your customer. Go to your customer and explain the situation. An anonymous internet forum is no replacement for customer-shop communication.

Even if it would have to be U stamped, you would have had the option of recertification, according to UG - 10 (if I remember correctly), that stipulates a material can be replaced with another one (according to other standards than ASME), provided that has, at least, same mechanical properties. Thus, I see no problem here.
